Transportation FAQ

Liberty Hill Independent School District
2017-2018 Transportation FAQ

Why is the Liberty Hill Independent School District changing some of its transportation services?  The transportation department is streamlining services and processes to become more economically efficient while still providing a great, safe service to our students and community.  As our district continues to increase in student enrollment, it is imperative we continually review and make adjustments to our system to increase efficiency in order to accommodate this expected growth.

Where can my child be delivered by a school bus?  A parent can designate a child-care facility or the residence of a grandparent of the child instead of the child’s residence as the regular location for purposes of obtaining transportation under the system to and from the child’s school, if the location is an approved stop on an approved route. For grades Prekindergarten through 4th grade, the grandparent’s residence must be in the attendance zone. For the 2017-2018 school year, students will be transported to any licensed, certified, or registered child-care facility in the district.

“Child-care facility” means a facility licensed, certified, or registered by the Department of Family and Protective Services to provide assessment, care, training, education, custody, treatment, or supervision for a child who is not related by blood, marriage, or adoption to the owner or operator of the facility for all or part of the 24 hour day, whether or not the facility is operated for profit or charges for their services it offers.

Can I choose more than one location for my child to be delivered to?  We will only transport your child to one location you have pre-selected. This can include the student’s residence, a grandparent’s residence in the student’s attendance zone, or a licensed, registered, or certified child-care facility in the district. You can change the destination, however, the change will not be implemented for five working days.

How can I change my child’s transportation location?  Please email your transportation change to the appropriate email address:

Please include your child’s full name, grade level, homeroom teacher (only for LHES, BBES, RSES, and LHIS), requested destination, and any other pertinent information. You will receive a confirmation email when the request is received and another email when the request has been fulfilled.  Please ensure receipt of these emails to validate that your request has been fulfilled.   Notes, phone calls, text messages, and emails sent to any other party other than the transportation email indicated above, will NOT be accepted.

Why will it take five days to make a change?  The safety of our students is our number one priority.  Once a request is made to change the permanent destination, the transportation department has several verification steps to ensure this request can be approved.  For example:  Is the destination in district?  Is the destination in the student’s attendance zone?  Do we currently service this area?  Is there available seating on the bus?  Will the change significantly alter current route times?  Will letters need to be mailed out to reflect the change to inform parents/student?  To ensure our team has the time to process the request accurately, we are requiring five days.

In the past, my student has had multiple permanent pick-up/drop off locations each week.  For example:

Monday – Child-care facility
Tuesday – Student’s residence
Wednesday – Student’s residence
Thursday – Child-care facility
Friday – Grandparent’s house in attendance zone

Will I be able to have the same arrangements in the future?
No. We will only transport your child to one location you have pre-selected. You can change the destination, however, the change will not be implemented for five working days.

Will I be able to change from a bus rider to a car rider or vice versa?  Yes. Please send an email before 1:00 p.m. and within 24 hours of the change request.  Please include your child’s full name, grade level, homeroom teacher (only for LHES, BBES, RSES, and LHIS), current bus number (if you know it), requested change, and any other pertinent information. You will receive a confirmation email when the request has been received.  Please ensure receipt of this email to validate that your request has been processed.  Notes, phone calls, text messages, and emails sent to any other party other than the transportation email indicated below, will NOT be accepted.

My child is an out of district transfer student.  Will my child be able to ride the bus?  The district will allow an out of district transfer student to ride district transportation to and from a child-care facility licensed, certified, or registered by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and located within Liberty Hill ISD boundaries.  Otherwise, transportation will not be provided to out of district transfer students.

My child is involved in extracurricular activities with the school and their team rides the bus to events.  Do I need to do anything?  No. The changes only apply to transportation to and from school.

Will my child be able to bring his/her band instrument on the bus?  It depends. Most instruments will be allowed to be carried on the bus, as long as, they can fit in the student’s lap.  Larger instruments like a tuba, baritone, drum kits, etc., will not be allowed on the bus due to safety reasons. These instruments can block entry/exits and also take up additional seats. The district’s band directors have created alternate options to allow students with the larger instruments to have practice time instead of requiring these student to take their instruments home.

We are having a slumber party at my house on Friday.  Can my child have friends ride his bus home with him?  No.  Due to safety reasons, a student who is not on the bus roster will not be allowed to ride home on a bus. Students will only be allowed to ride a bus they are assigned to.
